I got a few emails recently, this was one of them:
Check out what some of our boys overseas did to their helicopter.
This very special Mi-24 helicopter is presently flying in Afghanistan ,
where it is no doubt causing quite a stir. God Bless the U.S.A.
Snopes says "Real Photos, Inaccurate Description"
Origins: Common as it may be to assume that any neat-o piece of military hardware must be American (especially when it's painted to look like the same type of bird that serves as the U.S. national symbol), the helicopter shown here is not American, nor has it been used by U.S. forces in Afghanistan or Iraq.
The type of helicopter shown in these images is the Mi-24 Hind; the unusually-decorated version pictured here originated with the Hungarian Air Force and was evidently painted with the eagle design by one of its crew members. The craft was not intended to be used in military operations and carried no armaments; it is strictly a display vehicle exhibited at air shows and the like.

Before propagating this type of urban legend and propaganda further, I recommend at least trying a quick Snopes search first.

I love snopes... except for now I have started getting those mass emails of some crazy event or another that claim to be backed up by snopes.
Funny looking helicopter. :)
now THAT IS ART!!! Those are really cool looking! I think we should paint all of ours too. Maybe that could generate some jobs!
YEA! I'm caught up now! I hate it when I get so behind with blogs! At least yours are fun to read! I love snopes.com also. I'm one of those that shoots back the snopes info via e-mail to the perp who sent me the BS in the first place without checking it out themselves. My MIL is the worst!
I pesonally hate it when I forget to check snopes before passing something along.
I think that site is one of the best helps on the internet. I get so many emails that scream "WARNING!! if you breathe today, you will die!"
Since Garity told me about snopes, I have become a fact checker. Thanks for telling me, Garity!
